Simon Says Memory Game

Project Overview

The Simon Says Memory Game is an interactive pattern recognition and memory game where players must remember and repeat an increasingly complex sequence of colors and/or sounds. The game starts with a simple pattern (e.g., one color lighting up), and with each level, the sequence grows longer. If the player makes a mistake, the game ends.

This project is great for final-year Computer Science students because it involves front-end interactivity, sequence generation, real-time user input validation, and scoring logic, all while keeping the gameplay fun and challenging.

Key Features

  1. Pattern Generation

    • Random sequence of colors and sounds generated each round.

    • Each new level adds one extra step to the sequence.

  2. Interactive Gameplay

    • Colorful buttons (e.g., red, green, blue, yellow) light up with sound effects.

    • Players must click/tap in the same order.

  3. Scoring System

    • Correctly repeating sequence → Player advances to next level, score increases.

    • Wrong attempt → Game Over screen with final score displayed.

  4. Difficulty Levels (Optional)

    • Easy: Slow speed, fewer colors.

    • Medium: Normal speed.

    • Hard: Faster sequence, more colors.

  5. Timer (Optional)

    • Limit time for players to respond, increasing challenge.

  6. Leaderboard (Optional)

    • Tracks high scores for registered users.

  7. Responsive UI

    • Built with HTML, CSS, Bootstrap for colorful, mobile-friendly interface.

Technology Stack

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript (for sequence generation, animations, and validation).

  • Backend (optional for leaderboard & login): Node.js / PHP / Java.

  • Database: MySQL / MongoDB (for storing scores, users, and game history).

How It Works

  1. Player clicks Start Game.

  2. Game generates a random sequence of colors/sounds (e.g., Green → Yellow).

  3. The sequence is shown to the player (buttons flash one by one with sounds).

  4. Player repeats the sequence by clicking the buttons in order.

  5. If correct → New round starts with an extra step added to the sequence.

  6. If incorrect → Game over, score displayed, and (optional) stored in leaderboard.
